  • With US backing, dozens of pro-American Shi‘i sectarian gunmen and puppet police launch assault on predominantly Sunni al-A‘zamiyah district of Baghdad Monday evening. Sectarians mow down civilians on the streets. Local men rally; set four militia vehicles ablaze. Americans rescue sectarian allies, lay siege to defenders.
  • Resistance bomb near Baghdad’s Jurf an-Naddaf suburb leaves US soldier reported dead.
  • Resistance fighters attack US column, reportedly killing one American soldier, after US troops execute five bound prisoners in full view of the people of Samarra’ Monday morning.
  • Two US troops reported killed when Resistance bomb destroys two mine sweepers in al-Mawsil.
  • Resistance ambush in Tall ‘Afar leaves US soldier reported killed Sunday night; American warplane “retaliates” by rocketing civilian home, killing two women, elderly man.
