Hugo Chavez: "Hitler would be like a suckling baby next to George Bush"

The political schrewdness of Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's Socialist President, never ceases to amaze me. Chavez understands the need for a global intifada against the elite by the world's poor and oppressed, and that conclusion renders him as a serious enemy to a ruling order that will who use any and all means - from propaganda to murder to military coups - to shut him up. Yet despite their best efforts to embarras, kill, humilate, and destroy him, Chavez continues to elevate the global stature of both himself and his nation.

As with Iraq, chief among the conspirators is Uncle Sam's Secretary of Death and Torture, 'Mafia' Don Rumsfeld, who compared Chavez to Hitler at a recent speech at the National Press Club. It hardly matters to Rumsfeld, a pathological liar and genocidal killer who considers murdering leftists among the loftiest of virtues, that Hitler and the Nazis killed revolutionary socialists like Chavez by the thousands.

We didn't have to wait long for Chavez to fire back.

"Let the dogs of the empire bark, that's their job," he retorted at Friday night's ceremony in Havana granting Chavez the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's 2005 Jose Marti International Prize. "Ours is to battle to achieve the true liberation of our people."

Speaking in Caracas a day later, Chavez launched another salvo: "Hitler would be like a suckling baby next to George Bush," adding that "the imperialist, genocidal, fascist attitude of the US president has no limits."

Earlier this week, Chavez expelled an American spy for plotting to overthrow his government. Lashing out against "the imperialist government of the United States," Chavez warned, "if your military continues to do what that captain was doing, the next step will be to kick out the entire military mission."

Chavez is no fool. On Thursday, he said the US is, “thinking that some day they’re going to do a Panama-type operation, coming here to get me.” He then taunted the architects of Sam's Iraq quagmire, “If they want to come, then come. We’ll be waiting. Come here. I want you to.”

Regardless of whether Uncle Sam announced it explicitly (which it will do, to the capitalist media, once it becomes politically advantageous), they already perceive themselves at war with Venezuela's Socialist government and their Bolivarian revolution. John Correa's spy operation, the well known existence of 'Plan Balboa', the documented role of Uncle Sam in the coup of 2002 and the lockout a few months later, US AID & the NED's illegal bankrolling of Sumate during the referendum of 2004, and the daily propaganda from the whole US government against Chavez and his government betray as much.

Uncle Sam's ruling class has Venezuela in the crosshairs, and Chavez knows that there's only one way to respond to such provocation. "We still need a higher number of rifles." Oppressed by the system, Chavez decided to fight against it rather submit to it.

The rulers try to camoflauge the the violent reality of Empire - its carnage and chaos - beneath their laughable rhetoric of 'freedom' and 'diplomacy'. Long before the Downing Street Memo exposed Uncle Sam's ass so nakedly, however, Chavez understood what progressives and Nation-liberals living on Sam's Planation cannot bring themselves to recognize: Neither John Kerry, nor Hillary Clinton nor the editors of the NY Times were "misled" into war. They use politics and diplomacy as instruments of that war to deceive, confuse, and murder the world's oppressed people.

Paying homage to Venezuela's failed 1992 uprising - an uprising Chavez led against the neoliberal economic policies forced upon Venezuela by the economic hit-men at the IMF - Chavez told a rally in Caracas, "The Russian rifles are not enough. Venezuela needs to have one million well-equipped and well-armed men and women."

Unlike Nation-liberals and progressive Democrats who waste time with the silly, racist delusion of peaceful coexstence between ruler and ruled, Chavez lives in the real world and understands, from the victim's perspective, the brutality of Empire. His decision to side with the oppressed - in the military; in office; in Boston and the Bronx; in Iraq, Cuba, and Palestine; and espeically in Iran - against the worlds oppressors in Washington D.C., London, Paris, Berlin, and Tel Aviv marks him as both an enemy and a target.

Chavez knows Sam wants him dead and he's chosen to fight. So one should not doubt that Venezuela will support Iran with every means at its disposal, including the oil weapon, when Sam unleashes its blitzkreig.

When that happens, it will be quite instructive to see who stands up to (and who lays down with) the Empire (are you listening, Jon Stewart?).
